A Nonprofit Mobility Mission

Mobility is dignity.
No one left behind.

Unity Impacts delivers safe, reliable, door-through-door transportation for seniors and people with disabilities — connecting them to the doctor, the pharmacy, the grocery store, and the people they love.

Our Story

An initiative of the Islamic Center Research & Business Incubator

Unity Impacts is a community mobility initiative of the Islamic Center Research & Business Incubator (ICRBI), a San Diego–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. ICRBI was founded to enhance the outcomes and quality of life of the elderly and people living with chronic disease — pairing cutting-edge digital health with compassionate, community-rooted care.

We saw the same barrier again and again: a neighbor with the will to stay independent, but no safe way to reach a dialysis chair, a pharmacy counter, or a family dinner. Unity Impacts answers that gap, extending ICRBI's mission of holistic well-being and self-reliance onto the road — because care that can't reach people isn't care at all.

Mission

To enhance outcomes and quality of life for the elderly and people with chronic disease by uniting compassionate care with cutting-edge technology — and by removing the transportation barriers that keep them from health and community.

Vision

Holistic well-being and self-reliance for every senior and person with a disability — supported by community engagement, dignity, and reliable access to the places that matter most.

Values
  • Caring beyond limits
  • Personalized, proactive support
  • Dignity and self-reliance
  • Community engagement & trust
  • A well-rounded, whole-person approach
Our Mission

No senior or person with a disability should be confined, isolated, or denied care because they can't get there.

We provide transportation that restores independence and connects people to health and community — treating every rider as a neighbor, not a fare. Mobility is a right of aging and disability, not a privilege of those who can still drive.

Dignity first

Trained driver-attendants help riders from inside their door to inside their destination — never just dropped at a curb.

Reliable on demand

App, web, and a real phone line let riders book the rides they need — including same-day trips for urgent medical care.

Built by community

Riders and people with disabilities help design our routes, hours, and service through our Rider Advisory Council.

The Program

Demand-responsive transport, designed for real lives

Our model fills the gap between costly individual taxi rides and underused fixed bus routes — pooling compatible trips with smart routing to keep service affordable.

  1. Request a ride

Book by phone, app, or web — caregivers can book on a rider's behalf. Trips prioritize medical, dialysis, pharmacy, groceries, and meals.

  2. We match & route

Dynamic scheduling pools nearby trips into a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, cutting wait times and cost per rider.

  3. Door-through-door care

A trained driver-attendant assists each rider from their home to their destination and safely back again.

  4. We keep improving

Every trip is measured — on-time performance, wait time, and cost — and reviewed with our Rider Advisory Council.

SPELL Impact Framework

Our part of the SPELL Impact framework

Unity Impacts delivers the Link pillar for ICRBI — transportation is the most literal expression of Link: we physically connect people to the care, food, benefits, and community they would otherwise be cut off from.

Link care and community resources

We connect people to clinical care and to food, transport, benefits, and support — and we confirm they got there.

For Unity Impacts that confirmation is the ride itself: a trained driver-attendant takes each rider from inside their door to inside the dialysis chair, the pharmacy counter, the food pantry, or the family table — and back home again.

  • Closed loop, not a hand-off. A referral to a partner clinic, meal program, or benefits office is only counted once the trip is completed and the arrival is confirmed — referral confirmed, never simply referral sent. Missed and cancelled trips are followed up and rebooked.
  • Community governance. Our Rider Advisory Council — seniors, riders with disabilities, and caregivers — is the community-governance body for this program. It reviews routes, hours, service standards, and our published results, meeting the SPELL commitment that the people served help govern the program.
  • Human-guided service, supported by analytics. Dynamic routing helps us pool trips and cut cost and wait time; scheduling staff and driver-attendants make the decisions about who rides, when, and what help they need.

Our service model

What we are building toward

These are the service-model targets Unity Impacts is designed to reach at full operation — not results we have delivered yet. We publish them so funders and agencies can see exactly what we are committing to, and hold us to it.

These figures are targets, not delivered results. Achieved performance will be published in our quarterly outcome report, each with its method, denominator, and reporting period. Until a figure has been measured, it appears here as a target and nowhere else as a result.

0
TargetRide frequency
One-way trips per year at full operation, assuming each active rider averages 6+ trips per month.
0
TargetAccessibility fulfillment
Our standard: every wheelchair-accessible vehicle request met, zero denied accessibility trips. Measured against requests received.
0
TargetCost per trip
Modelled average cost per pooled one-way trip at scale, assuming smart routing and volunteer drivers.
0
TargetOn-time performance
The reliability standard we are building for time-sensitive dialysis and medical appointments.
0
TargetTransit-desert ZIPs
San Diego ZIP codes with little or no accessible transit that the service is designed to cover.
0
TargetRider satisfaction
Share of riders rating their experience good or excellent, to be measured in quarterly surveys.
Outcome Commitments

What we commit to report

One individual, one community, and one system measure. Figures appear here once we report — we publish no number our measurement can substantiate.

Individual

Share of riders who reach their scheduled medical, dialysis, pharmacy, or food trip with door-through-door assistance and confirmed arrival.

Reported quarterly, in the same quarterly outcome report we already publish.

Community

Accessible trips delivered in San Diego transit-desert ZIP codes, reviewed with the Rider Advisory Council before publication.

Reported quarterly, alongside the Rider Advisory Council's review of the same quarter.

System

Missed and rescheduled appointments avoided through confirmed transport, measured with partner clinics against a comparison group.

Reported quarterly, with a fuller annual roll-up to funders and partner agencies.
